Helford River
The Helford River flows from Gweek to the sparkling waters of Falmouth Bay. Immortalised by Daphne du Maurier and her novel, Frenchman's Creek, the river is a paradise for wildlife which can be viewed from the footpaths which meander along the wooded creeks, inlets and riverbanks.
Visitors can enjoy paddling about in a hire boat, swimming from one of the small coves or just sitting and admiring the magnificent unspoilt views of the Helford area.
Two waterside pub restaurants are linked by a foot ferry which runs daily from the Ferry Boat Inn at Helford Passage, on the north bank, to the Shipwrights Arms in the beautiful Helford Village.
There are many sailing events on the Helford River and yachts people are welcome all year round. Visitors' facilities are available at the Helford River Sailing Club and Port Navas Yacht Club.
Two renowned semi-tropical gardens are open to the public; Glendurgan Gardens with its own maze and Trebah Gardens with plenty of fun provided for children. The Budock Vean Hotel has gardens running down to Port Navas Creek, a 9 hole golf course, a health spa and swimming pool.
The village of Gweek, with pub and tea rooms, is home to the famous Seal Sanctuary where orphaned and injured seals can be viewed recuperating in their own hospital and rest pools.
The tiny hamlet of Durgan, with a culture all of its own, just a mile from Mawnan Smith, where the Rose Cottages are situated, is a picture perfect location on the Helford River.
Port Navas village, with its rich history, is an idyllic, setting for any holiday home. The Oyster Farm, the last in Europe and perhaps the world, that still goes out under sail. All of our properties located in the village have free temporary membership to the Port Navas Yacht club where you can enjoy a drink and home cooked meals.
The Helford River is a haven for environmentalists and those seeking tranquillity and peace.
