bonfire night - fireworks

The clocks have gone back, the nights are drawing in and with Bonfire Night tomorrow, it’s almost time to say goodbye to the crisp leaves of autumn. For most, Bonfire Night is all about the ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’ of colourful fireworks, while for others it’s about gathering round a bonfire, wrapped up warm with a steaming hot cup of chocolate in their hands.

If you’re creating your own fireworks display, then make sure you stay safe, but if you are looking for something bigger we have three local suggestions that are all within approximately 20 minutes of your holiday home.

FALMOUTH Fireworks Display – Falmouth Cricket Club – Wednesday 5th November

A fantastic, grand firework display put on by the local fire brigade. If you’re at all worried about safety this will be the one to attend. The gates for this event open at 6pm and the firework display will be at 7pm.

Local Cornish radio station Pirate FM will also be attending and playing music along to the firework display. Last year saw around £6,500 worth of fireworks set to music and this year looks set to be even bigger, with fairground rides and fire performers, as well as a hog roast, burgers and more.

HELFORD PASSAGE – The Ferryboat Inn- Wednesday 5th November

Promising a more intimate affair than Falmouth’s display, The Ferryboat Inn will be holding a firework display with live music and best of all, a beach bonfire. Offering a special Bonfire Night menu and with their large terrace you’ll be able to enjoy the ferryboat’s fireworks with a glass of wine in hand. The display is billed as starting at 8pm.

PORTHLEVEN School Bonfire Night Fireworks – Friday 7th November

Porthleven is one of the best places to eat out in Cornwall and on Friday there is also a vibrant community fireworks display to couple with an evening out. There will be food, cakes, hot drinks, art & craft activities, and music from local artists, including Porthleven School’s own signing choir. It all kicks off at 5.30 and tickets cost £2 for adults, £1 for children with under 3 year olds going free. All children must attend with an adult and tickets are available from The Top Chippy, The Harbour Inn and Porthleven School. You can also book by email by contacting Katie Thurston:
