New Beginnings

2016 has been a year of iconic celebrity departures, shocking politics and a lot of ensuing uncertainty. Putting my mindfulness training to the side and contemplating what 2017 might bring, I have to be honest, I am a little anxious. Worldwide there seems to be so much suffering and power in the hands of a few irresponsible characters. It is easy to feel helpless and down right depressed. But we must not.

A new year is a new year start. Each and every one of us has the ability to love, create and be kind. Let’s all be committed to kindness to ourselves, each other and the planet as a whole. Live, eat and breathe kindness like it’s going out of fashion.

My new year’s resolutions:

– Spend half an hour per day with my children, creating, playing games or reading. There will be no screens and I will not ask them to ‘hurry up’ or worry about making a mess. (My close friends will know how hard the latter part is for me!)

– To meditate for at least ten minutes per day. (The aforementioned mindfulness course brought an unfathomable amount of joy, clarity and peace to my life. It is easy to let modern life to get in the way of a daily practice, but only I have the power to change this and ten such important minutes should not be procrastinated over.

– To book my holidays now (as a holiday home agent I would say this wouldn’t I?!). But seriously I have previously put off committing to a holiday because of a hundred trivial reasons and as a result we have not gone away at all. Holidays and time together is precious and the memories leave the most wonderful lasting imprints in the hearts of family and friends.

Wishing you a very happy, healthy and kind 2017

Emily
