The Old Kiln

*New addition added 5th July 2019 *

A stunning, south facing, waterside home with a fascinating history.

The Old Kiln was built around and atop an 18th Century Lime Kiln which remains visible to this day at ground level. The building was commissioned by letter in 1968 by Miss Shaw, who at the time was working in Africa as a missionary. After lying vacant for five years, the current owners have lovingly restored this post-modern building, creating a truly exceptional boutique holiday home for up to six.

A striking property of architectural merit, a distinctive wave-form roof caps a wall of glazing allowing for 180-degree views of the waterside. Floor to ceiling windows within the vast open plan living area bring the activity of the creek into full view, from the picturesque village of Port Navas out onto the Helford River. You'll delight in watching the world of nature go by from indoors, or from the extensive balcony that runs along the front of the building.

You will enjoy languishing in the sublimely beautiful interior. From sumptuous panelled bedrooms to luxurious Fired Earth bathrooms. With underfloor heating in the living area and a wood burning stove, toasty toes are a guarantee.

Outdoors, a balcony runs along the full width of the building and wraps around the western perimeter to a considerable decking and paved area with seating and a barbeque. There is a veranda with seating and an outside heater to allow you to watch the sun go down over the village as the day draws to a close.

The terraced garden comes off the living space and is a natural sun-trap with several areas to relax in with the sounds of the birds that inhabit the canopy above. This enchanting garden has river views and a wonderful array of trees and shrubs. Two secluded sundecks are drenched with morning sun on the eastern side of the house, and a further raised deck on the top level of the terraced garden gives views over the river.

Paddle upstream in one of the two kayaks available to hire, at a pace in tune with our holiday and discover your secret picnic spot. Rent a boat or bring your own to moor at Port Navas Yacht Club and take the whole family to Tremayne Quay for a sundowner barbecue, crabbing nets and all. Delicious food is to be sampled at the Port Navas Yacht Club, with its convivial atmosphere, just a stone's throw from The Old Kiln.

Technology can be forgotten at The Old Kiln as you revel in your natural surroundings, perhaps submerged in the written word with time made for you. This is a property with a uniquely textured narrative to which the story of your holiday can be interwoven.

You may just never want to leave...

'From the moment we walked through the door we were enthralled by the design and beauty of the old kiln and by the breathtaking views of Port Navas from the large windows...'
