Summary

Perched above the harbourside with views out over the Carrick Roads, Cormorants is perfectly positioned to enjoy exactly what Falmouth is famous for. Listen as the sounds of the harbour carry up to your crow’s nest – from the clipping of masts to the ‘heave-ho’ of rowers making their way across the water. And as the morning sun gleams on the surface of the water, spare a moment to take it all in.

Tear yourself away from the view and head out, and then find yourself spoilt for choice for how to while away your time here. From simply ambling around soaking up the ambience, to adventuring out onto the coast path to see where it leads, the possibilities are endless.

Seas views stretch out before you from this two bedroom apartment within the Packet Quays, a Mediterranean-style layered development set into the historic quayside in Falmouth. Contemporary and characterful, the Packet Quays are filled with passages and walkways that evoke the style of a harbour village, with opeways leading out to the historic Old High Street in Falmouth.

Internally, this apartment benefits from an open-plan living and dining area with large patio doors out to the balcony. Wind down in one of two comfortable bedrooms and enjoy sea views from both – and with the windows ajar during summer, fall asleep to the sound of waves lapping on the harbourside below.

Try and spot your apartment’s namesake during your stay as the cormorants that inhabit the harbour sun themselves on the bows of yachts, or pop up out of nowhere in pursuit of their catch of the day. It would seem that they enjoy the laid back lifestyle of Falmouth just as much as we do!

The historic harbour town of Falmouth is as famous for its maritime history as it is for being the third largest natural harbour in the world. It’s also swiftly garnering a reputation as one of the leading destinations for dining and culture in the South West.

With an almost endless events calendar, and Cormorants as your base, you’ll easily be able to enjoy festivities ranging from the International Sea Shanty Festival to the Fal River Festival. Restaurants, bars, and independent cafés will keep you well fed and watered, with delights from celebrated chefs like Rick Stein to well-kept secrets like Provedore, a small neighbourhood café/restaurant hidden from the crowds.

Step out onto the Old High Street, Falmouth’s best spot for coffee and shopping, where you’ll find anything from antiques to unusual homeware. Grab a bite to eat from Stones Bakery on your way down to the pier and explore what lies beyond the view from the apartment with a boat trip out to St Mawes, or upriver to the historic cathedral city of Truro

Sandy beaches are only a short stroll away through town, and you can take your pick from the three that Falmouth has to offer. A dip in the sea is a must during the summer, and the more adventurous can try a spot of paddle boarding or kayaking from WeSUP, found on Gylly Beach.

For a break from the vibrancy of Falmouth, simply take a trip out to the Helford River and enjoy the tranquil delights of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty just a ten-minute drive away. Here upon the river lined with gorgeous ancient woodland, peace and nature reign. Beaches and coves abound, and meadows at the waterside make perfect spots for an idyllic picnic or two.

Reviews

Mrs Lindi

Roomy, clean, warm, well equipped and the views were amazing A little awkward to park as we have a big truck and getting to the apartment could be tricky for less able but we had no problems

Response

You rightly mention that the parking is for a small-medium sized car and the access to the apartment, (because it is nestled on the bank of the harbour), is via a considerable amount of steps, as per the property details. (IThere are 19 steps down from the High Street and over 30 up from the parking area, if you choose not to use the lift). We would always recommend the apartment not ideal for the very young or elderly, or those with limited mobility because of its location at the top of the old High Street and this being the hilly end of Falmouth town. Very best wishes, Emily and Team

Lift: Please note that whilst this apartment is usually serviced by a lift, while it is currently working we cannot guarantee its availability as it has been known to fail in the past. It should therefore be noted that there are 19 steps down from the High Street and over 30 up from the parking area. (For your information the lift serves the whole Packet Quays development and its replacement/repair is out of the control of the owners of Cormorants). We therefore recommend that this apartment is not suitable for the very young and those with mobility issues.

Pets: unfortunately this holiday home is unable to welcome dogs.

Parking: for a small to medium sized car.
