Summary

Resting on a clifftop at the edge of the Helford River Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Dreemskerry looks out over a seemingly limitless expanse of water. With a horizon stretching out before you across Falmouth Bay, holidays here are inevitably intertwined with the sea – be it gazing upon it, swimming within it, or gliding across its glassy surface.

Adventure via private steps down to the water’s edge, where feet can be dipped into cooling waters, or braver souls can dive into shimmering blue. After a spot of wild swimming or rock pooling bound up to the house with salty hair and renewed energy for an outdoor shower, or dry off on the terrace.

Although it’s the view that sets Dreemskerry apart from just about any other holiday cottage out there, there’s plenty to admire indoors too. Renovated to an exacting standard by meticulous owners and the careful eye of interior designer, Tanya Leech, this three bedroom property of some 3000 square foot provides generous living space. From a bespoke kitchen with a breakfast bar, to a master suite, on a separate floor, with its’ own dressing room and vast bathroom.

At the dining table set beside a corner window don’t be surprised if the civilised mealtime you had planned is interrupted by a rush to the glass – multiple pods of dolphins call Falmouth Bay home. You’ll have the perfect vantage point to see them leap from the water with sea views from all of the principal rooms, including each bedroom. Secluded, leave the blinds open and slumber bathed in moonlight. Wake early if you can to the most glorious sunrises.

Fill your lungs with sea air and stretch your legs on the south west coast path. Four hundred odd miles of Cornish coastline wait to be explored from the gate at the end of the garden. With a left turn taking you to Falmouth and a right turn to the Helford River and beyond.

Garden, woodland, terrace and steps to the water’s edge

You will not want to go far when on holiday at Dreemskerry. The captivating wildlife and south easterly aspect make for the most prefect deck chair moments. Perhaps most exciting of all are the private steps down to the shore below, which although steep and not for the faint hearted, are an adventure and the secluded spot is utter beguiling. Best to go on a middling, or low tide. Take care if you choose to swim and always ensure another knows where you are and that you are a strong swimmer.

There is a secluded seating area on the west side of the house for outside dining, plus a bench on the lower terrace and a gated, secure balcony (good for dogs and toddlers) with bistro table and two chairs, off the kitchen.

The large, two acre garden and woodland is a delight to explore and is a real haven for wildlife. It is steep in many parts and with a small stream to the east side. At the low reach of the garden, walk through the tree tunnel onto the coastal path. Head left for the private steps to the shore. From the house there are 95 steps in total to reach the rocks and sea, many of which are deep and steep, so please wear sensible steps and only explore in calm, good weather.

Parking

Parking for up to three cars just outside the house.

Location and Surrounding Area

Loading...

Dreemskerry rests at the edge of the Helford River area of outstanding natural beauty, equidistant from the tucked-away hamlets and creeks of the Helford and the bustling harbourside town of Falmouth.

At the end of the garden, while away hours beside the waves on your private patch of water access.

The golden sands of Maenporth beach await, just half a kilometre or so along the coast path. Walk the coast path and meander through wildflower meadows until you reach it. Your local sheltered beach has everything you might need for a day beside the water.  A lovely little cafe and handy public conveniences, plus plenty of space at low tide to spread out.

Come the evening, there’s even an opportunity for fine dining in Maenporth at The Cove, a restaurant overlooking the beach.

Falmouth, with its historic harbour is a hotspot for all things nautical. Here you’ll find the National Maritime Museum Cornwall and boat trips can be taken to and fro across the water. Falmouth is bursting with independent shops, coffee houses, and places to eat.

There are few places further from the madding crowd than the Helford River, where grade A waters lap against quiet beaches. Sailing opportunities are rife here, and the twin gardens of National Trust Glendurgan and Trebah make this little corner of Cornwall a must-visit.

Further afield, an hour or so’s drive takes you all over – to St Ives for a spot of culture, to the rugged beaches of the Lizard and the famous North Coast for the type of surfing adventures to write home about.

Stunning property in a beautiful location. Lovely walks from the bottom of the garden. We had a lot of rain during our stay so the coastal path was very wet but the outside shower was perfect for hosing our muddy dog down. Views from every room were amazing, but especially from the living room. Bring binoculars!

Caution

There are 95 steps of varying gradients to get to the water at the bottom of the cliff. The final set of steps are particulary steep and eclectic, although there is a handy rope to cling to. This access is only for the very fit and able. Furthermore Dreemskerry nestles close to the sea and as such is on a steep bank, so there are so many levels and inclines to navigate making the garden unsuitable for anyone with mobility issues, or small, unsupervised children. Internally the house is quite suitable for those with a degree of mobility issues, as everything except the aster suite is on the same level and there are two walk in showers, plus parking just outside the house.
