Summary

Life holds a different pace on the Helford River. The verdant tree lined banks, the ebb and tide of the gentle salt waters, the dazzling phosphorescent glow in the moonlight – when you have experienced such a delight then you will know the magic and unspoilt natural beauty of the Helford. If we could encapsulate happiness in one wall mounted multi-frame then a picture of a summers day on the Helford would be there glimmering bright.

Break away from modern life with a holiday at Lorelei and revel in the most special of locations on the north bank of the Helford, opposite Groyne Point where the ancient Sessile Oaks have stood proudly guarding the idyllic waters for hundreds of years. Come with your tribe and have the kind of holiday where you and the children are on the water, kayaking and getting back to nature. You will be wild swimming at dawn, fishing at noon and languishing on the lawn taking in the view at nightfall, with a G&T in your hand, the silhouettes of your favourites around you and a warmth in your heart.

Lorelei provides you with five bedrooms, three bathrooms, a large open plan kitchen, dining and sitting room, plus further mezzanine reading and viewing space. Rest in the house and enjoy the charming river views, frolic in the half acre garden, or meander down to the river and pootle around just like the characters in Swallows and Amazons.

If you can be prised away from that glorious view, there is plenty to do both on the Helford and just a short drive from Lorelei.

The Helford River has some proper Cornish pubs, bustling with the local gig rowers in the evening with the regular faces you’ll see year on year propped up at the bar. The Ferryboat Inn at Helford Passage is just a 10-minute drive from Lorelei and from there you can hop on the ferry in the summer months to Helford village on the other side. Here you can lunch at the Shipwright Arms, or the Helford Sailing Club either of which have lovely views. You can drive to ‘the other side’, it takes around 30 minutes to go up via Gweek through the lanes.

Falmouth and its sandy beaches are just a 20 minute drive from the house, here you will find the award winning high street full of independent shops, restaurants and cafes. The National Maritime Museum Cornwall, Pendennis Castle, sailing schools and water sports hire can all be found here so there is plenty to keep the children entertained.

If you have not had enough of the water then you can hop on the St Mawes Ferry and visit the Roseland, good for a bit of seal spotting on the journey over and a lovely town for a wander around the shops. Visit the smaller sister castle of Pendennis for panoramic views of the river.

The River Fal is one of the deepest natural harbours in the world, and you will notice a difference from the Helford. If you want to hire a boat we would recommend a day on each river exploring the creeks as they are both quite different.

Of course there is so much more to Cornwall, easy access up the A39 connects you to the rest of the county. The Eden Project has some brilliant events throughout the year, and St Ives has the newly refurbished Tate Gallery and Barbara Hepworth Sculpture Garden. Further west we recommend seeing a show at The Minack Theatre where often the performances are interrupted by a passing pod of dolphins or a friendly basking shark.

You wouldn’t be blamed for putting your feet up and not leaving all week though! (Pootling up the river by boat for a slow lunch at the ferryboat doesn’t use the car so we are not classing that as ‘leaving’).

Please note Lorelei is at Calamansack, not to be confused with the 50 acre private estate Calamansac which is in Port Navas.
