Summary

Perched up high, in the hub of Falmouth’s Victorian cottage terraces, sits Skysail, a contemporary, modern residence with oodles of charm.

Spread over three floors with a bathroom conveniently located on each floor, Skysail offers ample room for your family/group to come together or for individuals to find space alone, depending on how the mood flows. The four sleeping spaces make this holiday home comfortable for up to eight people.

Revel in the influx of natural light and charming views over Falmouth’s rooftops to the harbour. In summer, there is all to play for al fresco. The courtyard garden with raised bed, coastal plants, table and chairs is sheltered and may be just the contrast you need after a day on the beach. Here, enjoy a plate pilled high with Cornish scones and dollops of strawberry jam and clotted cream. The two, bijou balconies on opposing sides of the house also allow for maximum opportunity for sunlight basking.

In the winter, saunter down to Falmouth town for warming breakfast treats from Stones Bakery and back up Jacob Ladder’s thigh-warming 111 steps to earn that Pain au Raisin. Return to settle yourself in the sitting room and lay down on the large sofa, the perfect retreat to escape from blustery winds, with a gripping read in hand.

Gyllyngvase Beach is 15 minutes on foot and as well as some idyllic swimming waters, is also the home to a paddle-board club and hire centre, Gylly beach bakery and renowned café with large open-air deck. Vitamin sea awaits you.

Location and Surrounding Area

Falmouth is a University town, with a long-established art school, a thriving superyacht industry and a working dockyard. Enjoy the energy and friendly atmosphere of this historic harbour town.

Skysail occupies an elevated position on a residential street close to the town centre and Piazza where frequent markets are held, most notably the weekly Farmer’s Market on a Tuesday.

There are coffee shops, ice cream parlours and restaurants aplenty. The best get booked some way in advance in the summer months, so be sure to make a reservation.

Just at the bottom of the hill is the Prince of Wales Pier, where passenger ferries can be taken on foot across the glistening harbour for day trips on the coast.

You’ll have easy access to any of Falmouth’s three sandy beaches, and we recommend you visit them all during your stay for a relaxing afternoon or sea swimming, sunbathing, and ice-cream.

Reviews

Mik Banks

- August 2021

Although the property was lovely and we enjoyed our stay, in my opinion it was overpriced at nearly two thousand a week

Response

Thank you for finding the time to send us your review of your stay at Skysail, Mik. We appreciate the feedback about the property pricing and are sorry to hear you felt it was too expensive. Skysail is a premium property as you know, in a well sought after location, its high quality is reflected in its pricing. We feel at £1854 a week, the house represents fairly good value, at £33 per night, based on 8 sharing. Kind regards from us all at Cornish Holiday Cottages

Guests
Skysail is best suited for seven people as there is a king-size bed and a twin room on the first floor, plus a lovely, second-floor balcony room with double bed (pushed up against the wall). As the bed is situated in this position we regard it only suitable for one person, although of course, you may like to sleep two in there. There is a further twin room on the adjacent side of the house (on the second floor). Overall we feel the space in the house lends it best to seven persons.

Mezzanine Office:
Not suitable for small children, anyone with mobility issues or a sleepwalker as there are ladder-like steps to access the desk and a considerable drop from the platform. As the bed is located in the roof space the headroom is limited but the views and sunrise over the Carrick Roads are delightful.
