Summary

In spring, cascades of wisteria envelop the front of this traditional stone cottage, an idyllic home-from-home with miles of walks through Cornish countryside just waiting to be discovered directly from the doorstep.

Tucked quietly away down a private lane, Pumpkin Cottage is a vision of picturesque Cornwall. Originally two separate cottages that have been united to create a spacious countryside retreat to sleep six, this is a traditional country cottage with everything you could possibly need for a modern-day holiday. Venture into the wilds of Cornwall with the family – take a boat out on the nearby Helford River, where you’ll discover secluded coves and beaches, or drive to the rugged North Coast and take to the surf.

Within the cottage, period details sit in harmony with modern conveniences. Pumpkin Cottage is bigger and brighter than most cottages of this period, due to the large windows that allow plenty of light into rooms of white walls and exposed stonework. A beautiful powder-blue AGA sits in the large kitchen, providing the perfect place to gather after a long and winding and wholly satisfying country walk. The conservatory leads out to a secure garden with a lawn and herbaceous border feature. Over the stone garden wall a pastoral landscape gives way to the woodland that surrounds Argal Reservoir. A circular walk from the cottage here is perfect for a morning stroll with the dog – just be sure to go via the café to grab yourself that all-important coffee for the way.

Pumpkin Cottage is an ideal base for exploring the Cornish countryside. Then, come the evening, simply step through the stable door and prepare to unwind in total comfort, with a warming log burner waiting for you all to sit cosily beside – including the family dog, who can even have a warming shower after a day in the sea too!

Situated within the small hamlet of Treverva, in open countryside on the South Coast of Cornwall, Pumpkin Cottage overlooks Argal Reservoir and its peaceful surrounding landscape.

At the other side of the reservoir, after a walk along its banks, visit Wild Vibes café for a coffee, and there let your little ones loose on the children’s play equipment. Kids and dogs alike will also love exploring the magical woodland around the water.

The Helford River is close by and offers pure fun for families. Swim within the crystal-clear waters immortalised by Daphne du Maurier, or walk the coast and make your discoveries on foot. Budding dinghy sailors, kayakers, and those looking for little coves and beaches away from the masses will be in their element here.

Head to Falmouth, just a ten-minute drive away, for shopping, art galleries, two cinemas, great restaurants, and boat trips to St Mawes, Truro, the Helford River and Flushing. Falmouth’s three beaches offer golden sands and bucket loads of fun. Most of Cornwall is easily accessed by car from Pumpkin Cottage, with the wild North Coast a short thirty-minute drive away.

We had a marvellous week in Pumpkin Cottage, the setting is beautiful with lakeside dog walks, a lovely garden with views. The cottage itself is characterful, comfortable and really well equipped, especially the kitchen. It all added up to a lovely, family week, thank you.
