Introducing… The Old Kiln in Port Navas

Unique design
A modern masterpiece of design with an extraordinary history dating back to the 1800's, The Old Kiln has recently been restored and is now a truly breathtaking waterside holiday home sleeping up to 6 people.

One of the newest properties in our portfolio is a unique renovated Lime Kiln in Port Navas. We here at Cornish Holiday Cottages are delighted to be able to offer this property for your next holiday on the Helford River in Cornwall.

The Old Kiln was formerly a working Victorian lime kiln, accessed by boat via passage up and down the river. Reshaped in 1968 by a female architect from a commission by the then owner Mrs Shaw, a Cornish Bard who worked as a missionary in Angola at the time. Dear Mrs Shaw lived largely in solitude in the house on the creek up until she passed away in her 90’s. During this time the sole access was unbelievably via a very steep, ladder like staircase, which the current architects have incorporated elements of into the double bedroom, an homage to her long service and fascinating relationship to the building.

The Old Kiln has now emerged from its current cocoon as an exceptional boutique holiday home for up to six.

Floor to ceiling windows within the vast open plan living area bring the activity of the creek indoors, a delight to watch pass by. Tiling from Fired Earth ensures your interior view is just as good-looking as the exterior.

A large balcony runs along the full width of the building and wrapping round the western perimeter is a considerable decking area with seating and a BBQ. To the rear of the house is an enchanting garden with river views and a captivating array of trees.

The Old Kiln is available to book for holidays. Although if you stay be prepared – you may never want to leave….
